What’s it
worth?

Learn what commonly affects resale value before you list, trade, consign or request an offer.

DemandWhat buyers actually want now in your market.
ChannelPrivate, wholesale, auction and consignment values can differ.

Value is not one number.

A realistic resale value depends on the item, its condition, your location, how quickly you need to sell and who is buying. A dealer or direct buyer typically needs room for inspection, carrying cost and resale margin. A private buyer may pay more, but the sale can take longer and require more work.

Use an asking range, not wishful pricing.

Compare relevant sold or completed transactions where possible—not only active listings. Active listings show what sellers hope to receive; completed sales provide stronger evidence of what buyers accepted.

Build your estimate from evidence

  1. Identify the exact model, specifications, year or reference.
  2. Describe condition accurately.
  3. Find comparable items in the same market and season.
  4. Adjust for documentation, accessories, service, mileage/hours or missing parts.
  5. Choose the selling channel before setting your target price.

Quick resale-range estimator

This is an educational starting point, not an appraisal. It applies a broad depreciation range to the original price and then adjusts for age and condition. Real resale value can differ substantially based on brand, local demand, documentation, seasonality and market comparables.

How to improve the estimate

Search for at least five comparable items with the same model, age and condition in your region. Remove obvious outliers, note how long listings have been active, and compare the result with any dealer, auction, consignment or direct-buyer quotes you receive.
